Spain, the origin of the espadrille

Spain, land of contrasts, is divided in 17 regions, called autonomies.  Each region specializes in specific styles, and the espadrille is one of the two traditional products of the region of La Rioja, just south of the Pyrenees, the second product being the red wine Rioja.
